The River Rat

 The Open Door..

After a gentle rain came dancing by
I sat real still high on a hill
On a rock beneath the sky…
The road i came still smelt of rain
it’s rocks drying one by one
But, I felt at home, not all alone
with the rock the sky and sun.
The day was cool,it warmed my soul
as i whispered into the summer breeze
“If it’s no bother,a daughter to Father
talk is what I’d like Lord,if you please”..
‘Twas then I must have fell asleep
for my heart it seemed to stop
as i flew just like the Eagles do
Looking down upon the old rocks top..
I heard a silent voice that seemed
to be telling me to see
for years of long His voice was strong
talking constantly to me..
i excused it as a thought and not
God taking to me ( I couldn’t see)
that yes for sure, that opened door
was never closed to me.
I heard a voice that said quite clear
”listen for a door to open silently
and let be heard as a silent word”
child you’ll know it’s me”
then i awoke and a fog like smoke
seemed to stand right where i stood
and I heard the sound of a door
Open like He said it would.
I realized I need not pray
For He knew about me inside out
And I was safe in His grace
for that I had no doubt.
Since that day i must say
I wonder how He knew that I
surly would know if I could
what it feels like to fly.
and true to His word I have heard
Him chatting all the time
Silently, words just for me
& I find them in my mind..
The door that opened never closed
and He promised me quite faithfully
that Father to daughter, i need not bother
to listen for His door to close on me…

 Yesterdays Farm...

It was Late in August
A hot summer day
The bright sun was setting
(I had a hour to play..)
So I walked in the woods
And followed a stream…
Taking time to make time
For myself just to dream..
I came to a old cabin
With a garden and barn
Memorys of A yesterday
When life held more charm..
where gardens was planted
right out the back door
And apples and Berrys
Went in a cellar to store..
I thought how the old days
Was more modern about “things”
Like chopping their own heat
And getting water from springs..
No bills for Utilities
No meters to read..
When family’s together
Got their groceries from seed.
I felt peaceful and safe
as i watched the sun going town
wishing i could go back
Bring them old days back around..
To do it the old way
and have all the charm
that i felt when i stumbled
Upon Yesterday’s Farm…

 Home..

Down a old gravel road
On a hill I go home
To visit the reasons
I don’t feel alone..
Where good people love me
‘Cause I’m one of their own..
A place out in the country
That i call Home sweet home..
Where chickens are laying
And Horses run free..
Where Grandma is baking
A pie just for me..
Where all the Men gather
By the barn talking cars…
And women talk about babies
and empty out canning jars..
Where children feel safe
Even when they are grown.
And love is the reason
It still feels like Home…

Wow has it been that long?

Has it been 2 years since i first ran across my adventure as the River Rat??? I have a lot of poems i need to share..

Old Friends

There’s some old friends of mine
that’s been tucked in the ground
Sleeping through winter
Out of sight out of sound.
One by one they say Hello
Just like a faithful loyal friend
They come and stay then one day
Go back to sleep again…
What gets me through winter
Is thinking of them
And how I can’t wait
To see them again..
From Spring into summer
Through Autumn (winter POO)
I love getting a visit
from old friends don’t you?
me.

 Autumn and Jack....

I've heard in the winds
whispers that Autumn,
is leaving us soon..
I found her leaves
laying gracefully
across the country road.
Like making a dare
For me to cross the line
and disturb them.
Jack frost has been,
courting her nightly now.
Bringing her beautiful diamonds
on early morning trays
of trailing light.
They dance benieth sunsets
and slow moving fog..
His icy hands touch
places that summer
has yet to let go..
Jack loves her you know...
But i've been watching
(Each day she is fading. )
her colors seem to be
losing their bright
youthful attire..
Autumns last days
are here.
She's saying
goodbye...
