 Have A Safe Memoral Day.......

HEROS...

"I hear it coming" said the boy
as we waited for it to appear...
Sirens roared above the croud
as he jumped up and cried out "It's here"

Such a sight it was to see
the parade that memorial day
with flags and floats and marching bands
in salute to those passed away.

"I'll race you home" the young boy said
as the parade faded from view
"I don't like the graveyard part"
"Their just Heros that we never knew"

It was fate that found the boy
had grown through years to be
a soldier boy who gave his life
to uphold this land so free.

Such a sight it will be
the parade this memorial day
with flags and floats and marching bands
in salute to those passed away.

"I'll race you home" the young will say
when the parade fades from their view.
But me i love the graveyard part
theirs a Hero that i once knew.

(I wrote this poem in 1972 about a neighbor boy who I grew up with named Butch..He died in Vietnam.......I Miss him still.)

 New Lyric...

IF I COULD...

If i could
i'd bring our soldiers home
If I could
I'd bring our soldiers home..
i would bring them safe and sound
home again on American ground
If i could
i'd bring our soldiers home.

If i could
I'd make this world free
If i could
I'd make this world free
no cold and hungry children
no pain or poverty...
if i could
I'd make this world free.

If i could
i'd bring or soldiers home
if i could
i'd bring our soldiers home
I'd bring them safe and sound
Home again, on American ground
If i could
i'd bring our soldiers home..

If i could
i'd change 9-1-1
if i could
I'd change 9-1-1
I'd give anything to change
the damage that's been done
if i could
I'd change 9-1-1-

If i could
i'd bring our soldiers home
If i could
I'd bring our soldiers home
I'd bring them all safe and sound
home on American ground
If i could
i'd bring our soldiers home
if i could
i'd bring our soldiers home

 A funny Memory.....

Yesterday would have been my Grandma's 90th Birthday,( if she had lived anouther year and a half.) Needless to say i was sad, so I went Bloggin', just reading, commenting here and there. The blogs got me thinking, even more about grandma..and how funny she could be, today when my sister called to tell me that Grandmas house number 415 won on the lottery numbers ( smack on her birthday) we laughed, we was both holding grandma when she died, and it was odd she died at 415 am.....let alone this. Anyway we got to talking about the funny things grandma did & said.
One day around 7 years ago, grandma called me up, she said, connie jean, Mary lou just pulled out of Marthas house and all i saw was the back of her car. you wouldn't believe what she had on the back of that car...it was terrable..Right there on her bumper..I said , what did it say grandma..She said " it said Jesus Christ" now, when she said it she didn't say it soft and smooth...she said it like a cuss word..everytime she said it...Jesuschrist!, I said Grandma she's not cussing she's talking about Jesus, He's in the Bible. Grandma's voice got real soft, she said," Honey,I know who Jesus is but she's driving around saying Jesuschrist! with everyone reading it.She's got a cuss word on her bumper. I thought mary lou was a good woman, she goes to church every Sunday. ".
I just couldn't make her see, it wasn't cussing. Remembering back, that's something we all hated... when grandpa would start cussing, it would have been better, I think to have heard, the F word or anything else, except Jesuschrist! or Goddammnit! We all hated that. they didn't use other cuss words..so to her, it was cussing. and it's sad.But was too funny to me, when it happened.
I had a grandma till i was in my 50's, my kids was in their 30's and not only had a grandma but also a great grandma..my own grandkids called my grandma, grandma. I was so lucky.I can't emagine growing up without a grandma..but lot's of people do.
Grandma never drank, or did anything bad to anyone..( she did cuss)..but she was loved by many many people & ran a store all her life. She was only 4 foot 10 and talked ALL THE TIME>>>> but i do miss her.. If you still have a Grandma, be thankful and take the time now, someday it will be too late.
if you have a funny or silly Grandma story, please post it so we can all enjoy it...
