The River Rat

 Easter Morning.....

"The Easter bunny came" he cried
"without a trace" (someone had lied)
'Yes my son, the rabbit came
but we both know it's just a game'
"Can we go to hunt the Easter eggs
when we get dressed?" the small one begs
'Yes, we shall, but first let's pray
it's more than just a Holiday,
The Easter Bunny's not the one
who gave me You, my only son'.

"He's too small to understand"
grandma smiled, patting my hand.
"The Easter Bunny's all he knows
he'll learn the truth as he grows"
yet though my mother raised me well
I have stumbled, i have fell
I want to do the best i can
to raise this boy to a wise old man.

Suddenly a soft voice said
as if it was inside my head
'If the boy learns on his own
too many years he's walked alone
time and truth are best at hand
to raise this boy to a wise old man,
For, though be wisest of them all
All will stumble, all will fall..'

I wish everyone a Happy And Safe Easter weekend. And may your kids and grandkids not be hyped up too much with candy. ( I know mine will be)
I wrote this poem in 1980. It was on the front page of our little local Newspaper...Easter morning 1980.

The Story Behind the Sinking Boat..

When I posted the pictures of the sinking boat, I didn't know there is a "story" behind the boat...You know how stories are...but this one seemed to me to maybe be true, because a abandoned business was near to where the boat was sinking... So, I'll tell you what I was told....
It seems this boat was taken or confenscated by the county for back taxes ( and maybe other things)...and the contents was taken by the cops..but then the boat started sinking and now the county wants the people to take the boat back. I's supposed to be in the courts now..but this is just what I heard. I wish i'd gone into the sinking boat.

the door was right there open and all ( actually i saw two doors on the side i was on)

You'd think , me being a river rat and so proud of it, that i'd for sure go inside the thing..but i didn't-as you can see, i got close but- no go inside...

i do plan to go back to this one though. and to for sure, get me a pic. of it from the "other side of the river" cause that's where you can see how bad it is sinking, on the one end.
I do think this boat must have been fine...with lots of rooms and space...maybe more stories are out there abut this boat. after all it does have a name still on it...

 Up on the ridge....

Today my son and his son
came to take me up to a place
that they found they knew i'd love
I saw excitement on their face..

so off we went the 3 of us
the road was not that far away.
and i could see right from the start
This would be a splended day.....

we found a nice little spot
to sit and rest and talk
this seemed to be a perfect road
to take a Sunday walk.

as we went on down the road
the day seemed warm and bright
and soon we came upon a farm
that sat off to our right

we said how it would be so nice
to live on this little road we found
and as we walked we talked about
someday farming the ground..

we went around a bend and saw
a grave yard tucked away
with a tiny little church
that had almost faded away...

The door was standing open and
(I had two boys with me)
so we took time to investigate
and see what we could see....

The day was passing quicky by
So we soon was on our way
and laughed and talked as we walked
it was such a nice warm day....

we came up on a real nice barn
that was near a creek so clear,
and met a guy who's name was Mike
that said that he lived here

i saw the road had lead us to
a place where i'd once been
and i took time to share this path
i had found myself , with them..

as we reached the ridge above
our house we paused to see
how the sky was giving pleasure
to both of them and me...

I knew that God had given us this day
to share as we had done
a special memory for me
my son and his son....

 Todays Poem

The president got on the tube
and said a big long speech...
said "the ecomy is doing great"
(prosperity is in our reach)
I wonder...
where does he buy his gasoline
and does he see his heating bill?
Food is going up so high
I'm about to eat road kill..
seems everything is going up
and up Lord where will it end?
I'm going to work every day
but can't make what we spend.
he said " we need to let the folks who have
a green card work at jobs that "we won't do"
But i know folks who can't find a job
it don't make sence ( does it to you?)
I wish i hadn't listened to
him talk, but it's a big done deal.
If anyone is gonna take U.S. down
I'm convinced that george Bush will......

 The Longest Road....

I came upon a tiny road
tucked in the country side
and started on my journey to
get to it's "other side"

soon I saw a tiny lane
that went off to my right
and as i got around it's bend
I saw a awsome sight.

It reminded me of pictures that
I'd seen on a wall somewhere.
It made me pause to give thanks
For what ever lead me there...

I turned to leave and saw a house
just beyond the pond a little way.
And stood behind the trees and thought
what if it was mine someday....

There was a barn up on the hill
that seemed so big and grand,
i never saw a barn like that
It made such a mighty stand

After awhile I thought I should
get back to this journy I was on
and I wondered what fine sight I'd see
before this day meets with it's dawn.

I came to a big old hill
that seemed to be so long,
when I reached the top i thought
that maybe I'd turned wrong.

Once at the top, i gave thought
to resting on some hay
in a field that seemed to be
put there for me that day.

Before I could sit down I saw
a sight my eyes had never seen
near the field was a barn
I felt like i was in a dream..

I moved to get a closer look
for it just amaised me so
as as I got closer it
almost seemed to grow...

I knew i should be going for
this day was moving on
and I still had a ways to go
before it met it's dawn....

As I went around the bend I saw
the strangest sight for sure..
a building with just one wall
gone were the other 4.

I went up to it's steps and thought
I'd venture through it's door..
but realized it opened to
walls that wasn't there no more....

It struck me sort of funny cause
The door was locked up tight
( to lock a door that doesn't lead
to anywhere just don't seem right.)

I got back on the road and thought
how this day had been so fine..
and swore i would remember it
and return again sometime...

I noticed how the shaddows fell
on the road now from the trees
and listened to the silence of
this day and felt a breeze

As i walked i thought about
this world and all it's fear
and wished i could bring every one
to what i found right here..

A little peace and solitude
has never hurt a soul
and here it's like anouther world
I found this journey cool...

i saw anouther barn that seemed
so small after the rest.
but it seemed so peaceful that
I thought it might be best.

I thought this road is oh so long
then i looked up and saw again
the house I'd found by the lake
(with a different view from then.)

I knew the road had turned around
to bring me back again.
and i went home to think about
the places I had been. Amen.
